My 90 year old beauty of a client is a retired hair stylist after 57 years! She still likes to feel put together but has difficulty seeing up close in the mirror and cannot draw on her eyebrows evenly anymore. She has also lost most of her brow hair leaving her with course and sparse grey hair.

I have all clients sit up and talk to me making facial expressions so I can focus on their asymmetry and begin to think how I will create an illusion of better symmetry for them.

I’d rather their eyebrows be even when they’re facing the world awake than when they’re lying down sleeping. THIS is why having clients sit up to check their shape is so important.

She understood they could not be perfectly even since I cannot chance her natural muscle movement on her forehead or her bone structure.

We clearly communicated and in the end she was giddy over her new eyebrows 🥰

This client was ready! She was about 40% faded, over 1 year since her last session with me, and she sent selfie for approval. 🙂🤝

Every single client heals at different time frames. My rule of thumb for future color-boost touch-ups:
💯 must be at minimum 1 year post last session
💯 must be minimum 40% lighter (selfie requested for approval from artist)

IMPORTANT: permanent makeup is not meant to replace topical makeup. It’s meant to enhance. To say permanent makeup will replace makeup is very subjective for every single individual client. We want the color to gradually fade over time. Why? This allows the artist to alter the color and shape and prevent any undesirable colors long-term.

What *can* cause color to fade quicker?
Sun exposure, skin care - anything anti-aging can lighten the color faster, topical skin treatments (lasers, peels, etc), some medications can affect skin barrier, and over-all skin health and genetics.

Even if a client decides to fill in with makeup, it takes 2 seconds because now there is a shape to follow! If not, it’s definitely enough to just wake up and go 🏃🏽‍♀️

FRESH vs. HEALED 🙂‍↔️ #lipblushtattoo 👄

Each color is custom mixed according to clients natural lip undertone, skin undertone, and clients desired results. All play a factor with color choice and healed results.

Lips are slightly swollen within the first 24 hours before returning to natural fullness. Color is vibrant the first few days before the shedding begins and color softens dramatically.

The first 7 days or so yields the most change with appearance. After that, healing is smooth sailing while simply needing to keep them hydrated with a thin layer Aquaphor, my preferred healing product choice for clients.

Takes a minimum 12 weeks for the color to fully bloom and true color to be revealed and settled. 🌷

Second session/perfecting touch-up session takes place at that time frame. This is where any color or saturation adjustments are made.

When working over old permanent makeup, I have limitations on shape and color. Throw in fresh Botox and strong involuntary muscle pull on one side of the face adds an additional challenge.

Communication really is key! She understood my limitations and simply wanted improvement and wanted to wake up every day without having to fill them in with makeup. Just in time for her upcoming 80th birthday 🥳

Nano Hybrid Brows HEALED LONG-TERM results and what realistic expectations look like 🤝

For the artists, these were done with mineral pigments on a natural red head client with porous thick skin, course eyebrow hair, and covering old faded microblading. (No filters or editing 🤝)

Initially, we did a hybrid of machine hair strokes with powder. She really wanted hair strokes but after a while was filling in the front of the brows with makeup. Now that I got to see them healed past one year, and she was ready for a color-boost you can-up, we decided to softly powder the fronts.

This is precisely how pigments ought to naturally diminish from the skin over time. Keeping the color mostly intact and avoiding premature touch-ups is essential.

I always ask clients to share a selfie, which helps us assess if they’re in need of a color-boost touch-up. Every individual is unique, so I evaluate each situation individually, and this process does not impact the pricing for my clients.

The key takeaway I want to emphasize is that permanent makeup should complement, not substitute, traditional makeup. Each client’s experience will vary, and I prefer that clients enhance their brows with makeup as needed rather than relying on excessive touch-ups that may lead to overly dark and saturated brows over time. While permanent makeup settles flat within the skin, conventional makeup remains on the surface, providing added depth, texture, and different light reflections.
